A Brief History of the North Haven Land Trust

The North Haven Land Trust organizational meeting took place July 10, 1972 in the Town Hall with an enthusiastic group
of conservationists in attendance. On September 1, 1972, The North Haven Land Trust was incorporated. The first directors were:

By the first annual meeting on May 9, 1973 the membership had reached 200.

The first property to be acquired was 34 Banton Street (25' x 100') in January of 1973, from Mr. W. J. Hignett of Cheshire, CT.
The Banton Street property was subsequently purchased by the State of Connecticut in November, 1975 for the sum of $1,100,
to be a part of the Quinnipiac Green Belt along the Quinnipiac River.

1983 was a difficult year for the Land Trust, no one had been willing to take on the responsibility for being president so the
Land Trust went into "hibernation" from June, 1983 to June, 1985. They were roused by a donation of 13 acres.
